Angkasa Pura Operational Staff Respond Swiftly to Bad Weather at Soekarno-Hatta Airport
PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia has informed that on 6 April 2026, heavy rain with high intensity, accompanied by the potential for windshear, occurred in the afternoon at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport area. Assistant Deputy for Communication & Legal at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Yudistiawan, stated that the conditions impacted several flight movements, particularly during the landing phase. “Airport operational staff immediately carried out handling, including cleaning and restricting affected areas, so that the situation could be quickly controlled,” said Yudistiawan in his statement on Monday, 6 April 2026. Considering safety factors following the high-intensity rainfall, based on data from the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC), a total of 12 flights were diverted to other airports. In addition, 14 flights performed holding procedures, 13 flights conducted go-arounds, and one flight returned to the apron or Return to Apron (RTA). “Flight safety and security remain the top priority in every operational decision-making,” said Yudistiawan. He assured that intensive coordination continues to be carried out with AirNav Indonesia, airlines, and all related stakeholders to ensure that flight operations remain safe, orderly, and controlled amid unfavourable weather conditions. On the other hand, all airside facilities such as runways, taxiways, and aprons are ensured to be in good condition and can continue to operate normally without any puddles disrupting aircraft movements. This extreme weather also caused disruption at one point on the roof of the Boarding Lounge Gate 7 in Terminal 3. Airport personnel conduct 24-hour monitoring of all facilities, including building infrastructure, so that if any potential disruption is observed, the surrounding area will be sterilised from passengers and airport workers to minimise the impact. As a precautionary measure, airport users are urged to always monitor flight schedule updates through official airline channels or information screens at the airport, and to arrive earlier to anticipate any schedule adjustments due to weather conditions.
