Anggun Becomes Golden Visa Recipient, Reveals Contributions on Returning to Indonesia
Actually, in several other countries they have already implemented the Golden Visa in many places, and that’s why I am very relieved that Indonesia is offering this programme as well, because it’s about time, as this may be one way to prevent citizens from scattering, and it will contribute economically in real terms and to the country’s research as well,” Anggun said as she gave her testimony at the Golden Visa outreach in the Tanah Abang area of Central Jakarta, on Thursday (21 May 2026).
“As a Golden Visa holder, Anggun emphasised that she is now returning to being a local resident (warlok). She admitted that she already has an NPWP to pay taxes in Indonesia.
“I have become a warlok, indeed a warlok. And I have become a local resident and already have an NPWP. Of course, since I live here, I should pay taxes here,” she said.
“Anggun said she was glad when she was granted the Golden Visa. She noted that many Indonesian diaspora want to return to Indonesia.
“Because I was given the opportunity, invited by this Golden Visa, my whole family can come, with pleasure, you know. In other words, as far as you go, you will want to return home. You will want to return home. There are many people, friends in the diaspora who feel the same, and now they can,” she said.
“Anggun then explained her reasons for going abroad. She emphasised that her reasons for going abroad were not to run away.
“Perhaps last year, there were people who said there was that hashtag, ‘just run away’. I am not running away. I went abroad to build an international career, but at that time it felt like I was forced to relinquish citizenship, because there was real discrimination, something I truly felt and experienced. So now, with this programme, we can return home,” she added.
