Police have explained the reasons for naming the driver of the Anggrek train (formerly KA Argo Bromo Anggrek) as a suspect after colliding with a KRL train at Bekasi Timur Station, an accident that claimed 16 lives. Investigators concluded that the accident was related to the braking actions taken by the driver, identified by the initials AN (37).

“Based on the results of the data and investigative evidence we have gathered, and as colleagues have also seen from the data logger results, it was found that the emergency brake action performed by the driver of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train at 21:51 WIB occurred when the train was 263 metres away from the point of impact with KRL 5568,” said the Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation, Metro Jaya Regional Police, AKBP Dewa Anom Danunjaya, on Tuesday (29/09/2026).

“Investigators have concluded that the emergency brake should have been applied at a greater distance than the initial braking action taken during the accident,” he continued.

He stated that investigators had conducted examinations and analyses of the evidence, and noted that experts had also been consulted. “While the driver did perform the action, the distance at which it was executed should have been further than the 263-metre mark,” he added.

Previously, police named one suspect in the Anggrek train accident that struck a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station, causing 16 fatalities. The Metro Jaya Regional Police identified the driver, AN (37), as the suspect.

“Based on the results of the investigation and the evidence collected by investigators, one suspect has been named, namely AN (37). AN is the driver of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train,” said AKBP Dewa Anom Danunjaya during a press conference on Tuesday (29/09/2026).

The suspect faces charges under the Railway Law and faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison. “The suspect is charged under Articles 323 and/or 324 and/or 474 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code and/or Articles 198 and/or 206 of Law Number 23 of 2007 regarding Railways, with a maximum penalty of 5 to 12 years in prison,” he explained.
