Anggrek Train Driver Named Suspect in Fatal Accident; KAI Respects Legal Process
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) respects the legal process regarding the accident involving the Anggrek train and the Commuter Line (KRL) in Bekasi Timur. KAI also supports the safety investigation and law enforcement processes being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and the Metro Jaya Regional Police.
KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the company respects the authority of each respective institution. KAI also ensures that all information and requirements needed during the legal proceedings will be supported in accordance with applicable regulations.
“KAI respects and supports the processes carried out by both the KNKT and the Metro Jaya Regional Police. We will remain cooperative to ensure every process can proceed professionally and within their respective authorities,” said Anne on Tuesday (29/09/2026).
Anne noted that KAI respects every stage of the ongoing legal process based on the principle of presumption of innocence. KAI also ensured that the employee performing duties at the time of the incident will receive company assistance while facing the legal proceedings.
“As a company, we have a responsibility to assist our employees undergoing legal processes. This assistance is a form of corporate responsibility to our staff, and it does not diminish KAI’s respect for the ongoing legal proceedings,” she said.
This assistance includes legal aid and necessary support throughout the process in accordance with applicable regulations. She also ensured that the employee would receive adequate information and guidance when facing the legal stages.
“We want to ensure that our employee does not face this process alone. However, company assistance does not mean pre-empting or determining the legal outcome. We respect the process and leave the legal assessment and authority to the authorised institutions,” she added.
KAI, together with the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transport as the regulator, continues to follow up on safety recommendations provided by the KNKT. This is part of the evaluation and refinement of the operational system.
“Safety is a shared responsibility and is non-negotiable. Every safety recommendation serves as material for evaluation to improve our systems, strengthen human resource readiness, and increase operational reliability. For us, evaluation must result in improvements that can be felt in our operations,” she stated.
Previously, the police named one suspect in the Anggreak train accident, which collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station, resulting in 16 deaths. The Metro Jaya Regional Police identified the driver of the Anggrek train, with the initials AN (37), as the suspect.
