The Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR), Ahmad Sahroni, has responded to the naming of the Anggrek train driver (formerly KA Argo Bromo Anggrek) as a suspect following a collision with a commuter train (KRL) at Bekasi Timur Station, which caused 16 deaths. Sahroni demanded that the legal process remain transparent.

“Since the status has indeed been elevated to suspect, I urge that the subsequent legal process must be fair and transparent,” Sahroni told reporters on Tuesday (29/9/2026).

Sahroni reminded the police to be cautious in handling the case. In his view, the driver’s actions were in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

“The police must be very careful in handling this case, considering that the driver was actually operating according to SOP. There were uncertainties regarding braking and so on. I believe this must also be a legal consideration moving forward,” he said.

Furthermore, Sahroni questioned the involvement of the taxi party, which is strongly suspected of being the cause of the accident. He requested that the legal process against the taxi driver also be transparent.

“However, the bigger issue for me is the green taxi party, which is clearly strongly suspected of being the cause of the accident. What is the status of the legal process? How far has it progressed?” he said.

“We must ensure that the taxi party, both the provider and the driver, does not escape the law. The police must thoroughly investigate their role in the occurrence of the accident,” he continued.

As is known, the police have named one suspect in the Anggrek train accident, which collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station, leading to 16 deaths. The Metro Jaya Regional Police have named the Anggrek train driver, with the initials AN (37), as a suspect.

“Based on the results of the investigation and the evidence collected by investigators, investigators have named one suspect, namely AN (37). AN is the driver of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train,” said the Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation, Metro Jaya Regional Police, AKBP Dewa Anom Danunjaya, during a press conference on Tuesday (29/9).

He stated that the suspect is charged under the Railway Law. The suspect faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.

“The suspect is charged under Articles 323 and/or 324 and/or 474 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code (KUHP) and/or Articles 198 and/or 206 of Law Number 23 of 2007 regarding Railways, with a maximum prison sentence of 5 to 12 years,” he explained.

In May 2026, police also named an electric taxi driver, with the initials RRP, who was hit by the KRL at a crossing near Bekasi Timur Station, as a suspect. The driver was deemed negligent, triggering the collision with the KRL.

During the accident, the electric taxi stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station due to a short circuit. Despite being named a suspect, the taxi driver was not detained.

“That is correct. We have named the taxi driver as a suspect,” said the Head of Traffic Unit of the Bekasi Kota Metro Police, Kompol Gefri Agitia, to reporters on Thursday (21/5/2026).

Gefri stated that the suspect is charged under Article 310 paragraph 1 of Law Number 22 of 2009 regarding Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ), with a threat of 6 months in prison or a fine of Rp 1 million. Because the threat of punishment is below 5 years, the taxi driver was not detained.

The police have also transferred the taxi driver’s case to the prosecutor. The transfer was completed on Thursday (10/9).
