Anggi's Tragedy: Engagement Plans Foiled Following Murder by Former Schoolmate
Anggi was eagerly awaiting next month when her boyfriend was set to propose. Tragically, the hopes of 25-year-old Anggi Aulia Arsyad were shattered by the heinous act of an old friend.
The 25-year-old was found dead at 1:15 am on Saturday, 23 May 2026 beneath the Bogor Ring Road (BORR), shortly after bidding farewell to her adoptive parents around 10:00 pm on Friday, 22 May. Police investigations confirmed she was murdered by M Febryan, 26.
What happened?
Febryan and Anggi were former classmates at a vocational high school in Bogor Regency. Febryan contacted Anggi via social media direct message, leading to intense communication until they met on Saturday, 2 May 2026.
‘The suspect had harboured feelings for the victim since their school days,’ stated Bogor City Police Chief Kombes Rio Wahyu Anggoro.
However, according to Febryan’s police statement, the first meeting did not go smoothly. Febryan claimed he was hurt by Anggi’s remarks about his parents.
‘There were statements that caused the suspect to feel hurt,’ said Kombes Rio.
A subsequent meeting took place on Friday, 22 May—the night before Anggi was brutally murdered. Feigning hurt, Febryan planned to trap Anggi during this encounter.
Febryan had prepared a machete and a tie in his bag. Anggi arrived in her own car to meet him. Inside the vehicle, Febryan demanded money from Anggi under the guise of seeking forgiveness for her remarks that had hurt him.
‘The suspect displayed the machete and threatened to kill her, but then demanded money in exchange for peace. When the victim refused, he strangled her with a tie inside the car,’ said Kombes Rio.
After Anggi lost consciousness from being strangled, Febryan dumped her body from the Bogor Ring Road overpass. He then fled with her Rp4 million cash and car, only to be arrested on the Cisumdawu Toll Road.
False Romantic Relationship Rumours
The case spread widely online, with rumours suggesting Anggi and Febryan were in a romantic relationship. However, Anggi’s family has denied this. Humaira, 35, Anggi’s sister, confirmed she had a boyfriend who was set to propose next month.
‘Her boyfriend from Makassar visited yesterday. The boyfriend is here, her partner is here, the future husband is here, and the proposal is scheduled for next month,’ Humaira said at Bogor City Police Station on Monday, 25 May 2026.
‘So please, Instagram and TikTok accounts spreading the rumours that she was dating—she was not dating anyone. Please clarify she was not his girlfriend,’ Humaira added, her eyes red from crying.
Anggi’s uncle and adoptive father, Syamsudin, 52, also reinforced this. Syamsudin stressed that Anggi and Febryan were merely old schoolmates who had recently reconnected.
‘If the suspect and the victim were schoolmates, then he was not her boyfriend. Again, he was not her boyfriend—he was just a friend. Like me, when I meet schoolmates at a reunion, we’re just friends, we communicate, that’s all,’ Syamsudin said when interviewed on Sunday, 24 May.
‘So there was no issue; I’m sure there was no problem. And I confirm the victim and the suspect were not dating. I dare say this because I raised this child, I brought her up—she hadn’t seen this schoolmate in years,’ Syamsudin added.
25-year-old Anggi Aulia Arsyad was murdered by M Febryan, 26, and her body dumped from the BORR overpass. Febryan also stole her car and cash.
Anggi’s body was discovered lifeless on Sholeh Iskandar Street (Sholis), Tanah Sareal District, Bogor City, West Java (Jabar), at 1:15 am on Saturday, 23 May. She had informed her family of her intention to leave home around 10:00 pm on Friday, 22 May.
Police arrested Febryan on the Cisumdawu Toll Road while he was fleeing with the victim’s car the same day. He lost control of his vehicle during the police chase.
