Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) has begun operating the Aneka Elok Reservoir in Penggilingan Village, Cakung Subdistrict, to strengthen flood control. “This reservoir was built as a multifunctional infrastructure to control ponding and flooding, while also providing a blue open space for the community,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin during the inauguration at the Aneka Elok Reservoir in Penggilingan Village, Cakung, East Jakarta, on Tuesday. The reservoir, with a total area of 3.8 hectares and a wet cross-section of 2.2 hectares, is one of the efforts to strengthen the drainage system in the surrounding area. Munjirin explained that through dredging, the reservoir’s capacity has significantly increased from 32,370 cubic metres to 41,152 cubic metres. According to Munjirin, this increase will optimise water holding capacity, especially during high rainfall. “The presence of the Aneka Elok Reservoir is expected to improve the performance of the drainage system and support more optimal water resource management in East Jakarta,” Munjirin stated. In addition, the reservoir also provides a solution to ponding problems in several vulnerable points, such as PHB Aneka Elok, Taman Pulau Indah Housing, and Pinus Elok Flats. Not only functioning as flood control, the reservoir is also expected to become a public space that supports residents’ social and educational activities. Munjirin also urged the community to maintain the cleanliness and preservation of the reservoir environment by not littering indiscriminately. In addition to the inauguration, the event included a site inspection, the release of 5,000 wates fish seeds, the planting of protective trees, and group fitness exercises. On that occasion, the East Jakarta City Government also gave appreciation to three subdistricts that won the competition for catching the most sapu-sapu fish, organised by the East Jakarta Baznas Bazis. Meanwhile, one resident of RW 09 in Penggilingan Village, Nurhayati (53), welcomed the operation of the reservoir. According to her, in addition to reducing the potential for ponding, the reservoir also becomes a new interaction space for residents. “Alhamdulillah, the reservoir can now be utilised. We are pleased, as it can be used for exercise and as a gathering place for residents,” said Nurhayati.
