Android Phones Often Slow? Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo Prepare the Solution

Gadget vendors Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo are working together to tackle performance problems frequently complained about by Android users, such as sluggish phones, rapid heating, and apps that often close on their own. This collaboration is being carried out through the Gold Standard Alliance, a non-profit initiative formed in 2021 by several technology companies, including Lenovo and Honor, alongside major Chinese smartphone manufacturers. Through this partnership, they aim to improve the consistency of Android device performance, which has previously been deemed suboptimal. Meanwhile, on the other hand, each Android phone manufacturer has different user interfaces (UI) and RAM management systems. This situation is considered to make app optimisation more difficult. Users’ devices can experience overheating, apps closing in the background, and continuously declining performance. Returning to the collaboration, the manufacturers and the Gold Standard Alliance are reportedly set to formulate new standards for RAM management for Android apps. This standard aims to allow apps to use memory more efficiently and not excessively, thereby making device performance more stable across various phone brands. This initiative also aligns with updates coming in Android 17, where the system will set clearer memory usage limits. The collaboration between the Gold Standard Alliance and Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo has developed an advanced approach they call the “Fair memory mechanism”. The Fair memory mechanism encompasses three parts. First, a unified standard that regulates memory usage limits by apps. Second, a smarter notification system, where apps will be given warnings when memory starts to run low, allowing them to free up resources before the system takes over. Third, a set of contextual rules that govern when and how those notifications are displayed to avoid disturbing users. To that end, developers are given time until 30 June 2026 to adapt their apps to the new standard, as compiled by KompasTekno from Gizmochina. In addition, the alliance states that each member company (Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo) will provide documentation and technical support to facilitate the transition process.
