Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The problem of full phone memory will soon be resolved. Google’s latest requirements oblige Android app developers to focus on reducing memory usage in their applications.

The obligation is one of the conditions announced by Google amid the problem of memory chip shortages due to the increasingly massive development of AI data centres.

Google has set new performance thresholds in a number of areas, including dynamic memory usage and bitmap usage, as reported by Tech Crunch on Friday (28/8/2026).

Another requirement is code optimisation to prevent issues such as slowdowns and app crashes caused by performance problems.

The technology giant is also preparing various tools for developers to meet the requirements. For example, it will issue warnings when an app exceeds the new thresholds, at which point developers will need to take action.

More diagnostic tools will be introduced by the end of 2026. One of them is a Memory Limiter feature to prevent apps from consuming more device memory.

Google announced these latest requirements with the aim of helping Android app and game developers deliver a quality experience. It also reflects the memory market that may be widely available, particularly for lower-end devices where price is a consideration.

Developers must comply with the new thresholds by February 2027.
