Andrie Yunus's Screams After Being Doused with Acid Awakens Salemba Residents
JAKARTA – The screams of pain from Andrie Yunus after being doused with acid by unknown assailants on Jalan Salemba I, Senen District, Central Jakarta, on Thursday evening (12 March 2026) awakened residents sleeping in the vicinity of the incident.
A resident named Temu, 42, said he was awoken after hearing loud screams from the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
“I was sleeping. Then I heard screaming. Gradually I woke up and heard continuous screaming. It was very loud,” Temu told Kompas.com when met at the location on Friday evening (13 March 2026).
He hurried out of his house and found several residents had gathered near the scene of the incident. The gathering was located near the Jembatan Talang bridge, which leads towards the Tugu Proklamasi area in Menteng.
When Temu asked what had happened, residents at the location mentioned that someone had been doused with acid. However, Temu did not directly see the victim at the location as the victim had already left the scene.
“Residents said the victim had already gone. After that, residents were still at the location. Only around the time for sahur (pre-dawn meal), police arrived at the scene,” Temu explained.
Andrie Yunus was attacked and doused with acid by unknown assailants on Thursday evening. Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of the KontraS Working Body, stated that the incident occurred at approximately 23:37 WIB when Andrie was riding his motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta.
“The perpetrators were two men who carried out the operation using a single motorcycle, with each playing the role of driver and passenger,” Dimas said in a written statement confirmed by Kompas.com on Friday.
Dimas explained that the first perpetrator, acting as the driver, was wearing a white-and-blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be denim, and a black helmet. The second perpetrator, sitting in the rear, was wearing a face covering or black buff-style mask that covered half his face, a dark blue shirt, and blue trousers rolled up to a short length and believed to be denim.
