Andrie Yunus's Right Eye Suffers 40 Percent Corneal Damage After Being Doused with Acid

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo has provided an update on the medical treatment for the right eye of Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, after he was doused with acid by an unknown individual.

Manager of Legal Affairs and Public Relations at RSCM, Yoga Nara, stated that the area of Andrie Yunus’s right eye has suffered damage to approximately 40 percent of the corneal stem cells.

“As part of the treatment, the medical team has applied an amniotic membrane and administered anti-inflammatory therapy to protect the eye surface and support the healing process,” Yoga said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

The corneal stem cells are now showing signs of recovery, although the epithelialisation process (natural healing) remains under further monitoring.

Andrie’s condition is currently under the supervision of a multidisciplinary medical team and receiving comprehensive care.

Monitoring will continue periodically, including to anticipate the possibility of secondary infections and ensure the healing process progresses well.

Furthermore, Yoga Nara revealed that Andrie Yunus underwent surgery in the form of tissue debridement on Monday (16/3/2026). The aim was to remove damaged skin tissue resulting from the burns.

Skin grafting has also been performed on parts of the wound area as part of efforts to accelerate the healing process.

The patient is currently undergoing intensive wound care.

“And to determine the optimal timing for further skin grafting procedures based on the patient’s clinical progress,” Yoga added.

“RSCM is committed to providing optimal, professional medical care based on patient safety,” he continued.

He also urged the public to remain calm and trust the medical team in handling this case.

The acid dousing incident against Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday night last week.
