Andrie Yunus's Response After His Case is Transferred to TNI Military Police Centre
Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, has submitted a vote of no confidence to the TNI Military Police Centre handling the acid attack case he suffered. Andrie, who is still receiving treatment for his damaged eyeball, conveyed the motion via a letter addressed to the Constitutional Court (MK) judges and civil society on 5 April 2026.
In the letter, Andrie stated to the MK judges that the attempted murder case against him must be thoroughly investigated. Andrie emphasised that handling this case is the state’s responsibility to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
According to Andrie, the most important thing is to ensure that anyone, regardless of background—civilian or military—must be tried through general courts. “I object and express a vote of no confidence! If the law enforcement process for this case is carried out through military courts,” said Andrie Yunus in a handwritten letter read by Imparsial Deputy Director Hussein Ahmad after attending the judicial review hearing of the TNI Law in front of the Constitutional Court building, Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
The step taken by Andrie is a follow-up after his case, initially handled by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirkrimum) of Metro Jaya Police, was transferred to the TNI Military Police Centre.
Andrie was attacked on Thursday night, 12 March 2026, around 23:37 WIB on Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta. Two unidentified individuals doused Andrie Yunus with acid, causing burns to more than 20 percent of the right side of his body.
Police did not arrest the acid attack perpetrators against Andrie Yunus. TNI Headquarters revealed four suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie. The four soldiers are initialled NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. They are members of the Headquarters Detachment (Denma) of TNI BAIS from the air and naval forces.
The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), as Andrie’s legal representatives, reported the case to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency. “We are following it up by filing a type B report or a direct report from the victim represented by the Advocacy Team for Democracy,” said KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya in front of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency building, Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
Andrie’s legal representative, Airlangga Julio, explained that they filed a complaint regarding the alleged premeditated attempted murder under Article 459 in conjunction with Article 17 in conjunction with Article 20 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). They also highlighted allegations of structured terrorism under Articles 600, 601, and 602 of the KUHP. “We want to hold President Prabowo accountable for his statement that there was terrorism in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus,” said Julio.
In this report, TAUD brought findings from their internal investigation as evidence to be examined. Among them, findings regarding 16 people suspected of being involved as perpetrators in the acid attack operation on Andrie on 12 March 2026.
On Wednesday last, several KontraS and TAUD members were questioned by Komnas HAM regarding this case. Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin P. Siagian said his institution had written to TNI Headquarters to examine the four members suspected of attacking Andrie.
Komnas HAM will cross-check evidence obtained from meetings with KontraS to the TNI. “We have sent a letter to the TNI to gain access to examine the four people,” said Saurlin at the Komnas HAM office, Jakarta, Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
According to Saurlin, Komnas HAM will not be limited to the four perpetrators released by the TNI. He suspects there are indications of other perpetrators in this case. “Our focus is to try to find information related to the involvement of other parties besides the four people who have now been designated as suspects,” said Saurlin.
The TNI Headquarters Military Police Centre stated that it has transferred the case files of the four suspects in the premeditated attempted murder case against activist Andrie Yunus. Head of TNI Headquarters Information Centre Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah said the file transfer was completed by investigators to the Military Prosecutor on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
“The transfer of files, suspects, and evidence of criminal acts has been handed over to Otmil II-07 Jakarta, for further examination of the completeness of formal and material requirements,” said Aulia in a written statement, Tuesday 7 April 2026.
He continued, if the files are declared complete, the legal process will be continued by the Military Court II-08 Jakarta. Aulia claimed that the transfer of files for the four suspects named NDP, SL, BHW, and ES represents the TNI’s commitment to professional, transparent, and accountable law enforcement.
