Andrie Yunus's Legal Team to Send Monitoring Team for Acid Attack Trial
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), acting as the legal representatives for Andrie Yunus, will not attend the trial for the acid attack case at the Jakarta Military Court on Wednesday (29/4/2026) forthcoming.
Nevertheless, TAUD will continue to monitor the course of the trial remotely, through media coverage and observations by their colleagues.
“We will monitor without being present directly as parties directly involved in the legal process and as representatives of the victim. We will monitor via the media or indeed through other friends who are also monitoring the trial directly,” said Gema Gita Persada, TAUD representative, when met in South Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).
The reason is that punishing only the four individuals exposed to the public is insufficient; Andrie and TAUD want the case investigated up to the intellectual actors.
“We feel that the ongoing process does not represent justice for the victim. So there must be legal accountability through the chain of command,” he stated.
They also highlighted the actions of the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo, who resigned from his position following the incident.
Gema said that Yudi should not be able to resign just like that without accountability to the public.
“We are very disappointed that this has escaped public attention, that the BAIS Chief should not simply resign, but must also carry out legal accountability, of course,” he said.
Currently, TAUD is still accompanying the report previously filed at Bareskrim Polri with allegations of premeditated murder against Andrie.
This report was made by TAUD following their findings of alleged civilian involvement in the case.
The latest development is that this matter has been transferred and is now being handled again by Polda Metro Jaya, which previously investigated Andrie’s initial case with a model A report.
“The transfer to Polda Metro Jaya, we received that information at least two weeks ago. We actually regret that because we submitted the report to Bareskrim so that the police side could view this case as not just an ordinary street crime and become attention at a higher level,” he explained.
Previously reported, Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, was doused with acid by unknown persons (OTK) in Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night (12/3/2026).
