Andrie Yunus's Legal Team Shocked as TNI Suddenly Reveals Involvement of Four Members in Acid Attack
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Andrie Yunus’s legal team, M. Fadhil Alfathan, admitted to being surprised by the TNI’s sudden revelation of the involvement of four of its soldiers in the acid attack case against their client. The four soldiers have now been secured and detained by the TNI.
Fadhil stated that his surprise was based on the statement from the TNI’s Head of Information Centre (Kapuspen), Major General Aulia, who mentioned that the internal investigation process was only conducted on Tuesday night (17/3/2026).
“It was only done last night. So we are quite shocked and up to now we are still questioning what kind of investigation was carried out?” Fadhil said at the YLBHI office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
In addition, all evidence and witness examinations have already been handled by the police.
“The question is, on what basis was the arrest of those four people made? We are concerned that these four people might not be the actual perpetrators,” Fadhil said.
He also assessed that there is a potential for this case to be narrowed down to an individual matter.
“A spontaneous issue, not about a murder threat or attempted murder against a human rights defender, in this case Andrie Yunus,” said Fadhil, who is also the Director of the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Jakarta.
Previously reported, four TNI soldiers were involved in the acid splashing action against Andrie Yunus.
TNI Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto stated that his side has now received the four suspects on Wednesday morning (18/3/2026).
“This morning I received four people suspected of being suspects who carried out the assault against Andrie Yunus,” Yusri said during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, Yusri has not announced the roles and motives of the acid attack on the activist.
“So we are still delving into the motive,” he emphasised.
The acid splashing incident against Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday night (12/3/2026) last week. Andrie is suspected of being attacked by two unidentified individuals while on his way home.
