The Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM) disclosed the current condition of Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

Andrie was splashed with caustic acid by two unknown individuals on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026, at approximately 23:37 WIB on Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta. He arrived at the RSCM Emergency Department (ED) in the early hours of Friday, 13 March 2026, at approximately midnight with complaints of burns on his face, neck, chest, back, and both arms, along with vision disturbance in his right eye.

Yoga Nara, Head of Communications at RSCM, stated that the medical team immediately conducted an initial examination of Andrie upon his arrival at the ED. Examination using pH indicators revealed exposure to acidic chemical substances in the wound area. As initial treatment, the medical team performed irrigation or washing of the exposed area to reduce the chemical effects and normalise tissue condition.

Yoga disclosed that further examination results showed that the patient sustained burns covering approximately 20 per cent of the body area and acute chemical trauma to the right eye with grade three severity. “This condition resulted in a sharp decline in vision and damage to the corneal surface,” Yoga stated in a written statement to Tempo on Monday, 16 March 2026.

To address this condition, the RSCM medical team performed cleaning of damaged tissue on Andrie Yunus’s right eye and transplantation of amniotic membrane to protect the eye surface.

Subsequently, Andrie was admitted to the High Care Unit (HCU) to receive comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of ophthalmologists, reconstructive plastic surgeons, and emergency medical personnel.

“Therapy provided includes wound care, administration of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, vitamins, and treatment to maintain controlled intraocular pressure,” Yoga said.

Yoga stated that the patient’s general condition is currently stable and not life-threatening. He assured that medical treatment will continue, including the possibility of tissue reconstruction procedures and further interventions to help optimise vision function recovery.

“RSCM is committed to providing comprehensive and professional medical services to every patient requiring treatment for complex trauma cases of this nature,” Yoga said.
