Andrie Yunus Submits Vote of No Confidence to Military Court
Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, wrote a letter to the panel of judges at the Constitutional Court (MK) and civil society on 5 April 2026. The letter was read by Deputy Director of Imparsial, Hussein Ahmad, after attending the judicial review hearing of the TNI Law in front of the Constitutional Court building on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
In the letter, Andrie stated to the MK judges that the attempted murder case against him must be thoroughly investigated. Andrie emphasised that handling this case is the state’s responsibility to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
According to him, the most important thing for him is that anyone, regardless of background, whether civilian or military, must be tried through the general courts. “I object and submit a vote of no confidence! If the law enforcement process for this case is carried out through the military court,” said Andrie Yunus in the handwritten letter.
According to Andrie, military courts have long been suspected of being a haven for impunity for military personnel who commit human rights violations. Yet the constitution has affirmed the principle of equality before the law. “Therefore, in this case, if it is not tried in the general courts, it constitutes a serious violation of the principle of equality before the law,” he said.
In a separate opportunity, the Military Police Centre (Puspom) of TNI Headquarters stated that it has handed over the case files of four suspects in the planned attempted murder case against activist Andrie Yunus. Head of TNI Headquarters Information Centre, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, said the file transfer process was completed by investigators to the Military Prosecutor on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
“The handover of files, suspects, and evidence of the criminal act has been submitted to Military Prosecutor II-07 Jakarta, for further examination of the completeness of formal and material requirements,” said Aulia in a written statement on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
He explained that after the files are deemed complete, the legal process will be continued by the Military Court II-08 Jakarta. “The suspects transferred are four with initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES, along with evidence,” said Aulia.
Aulia claimed that this file transfer demonstrates the TNI’s commitment to professional, transparent, and accountable law enforcement. “And as a manifestation of firmness in addressing every criminal act committed by TNI soldiers,” he stated.
TNI Military Police Centre Commander, Major General Yusri Nuryanto, stated that the four perpetrators are members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). He mentioned that they have initials NDP, SL, BWH, and ES. According to Yusri, the officers have detained the four suspects at the military detention facility of Pomdam Jaya Guntur since 18 March 2026.
