Andrie Yunus Still Undergoing Series of Operations, Vision Remains Limited
A representative of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), Jane Rosalina, has revealed the current condition of Andrie Yunus, External Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), who is still undergoing a series of operations after becoming a victim of an acid attack.
She conveyed this when TAUD, together with a number of related organisations, held an open forum regarding the appeal ruling in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus before the Supreme Court on Monday (7/9).
“As for his physical condition, he indeed suffered damage to his eyes in September, and a fifth of his body suffered burns. At present, his eyes are still receiving intensive medical treatment, kept covered ahead of a cornea operation — surgery on the damaged salpuncal part of the cornea,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Andrie Yunus’s vision is said to remain extremely limited. Jane said Andrie can only see light.
“He can still see light. Only after the major operation — we do not yet know how the process will go,” said Jane.
In addition to treatment on his eyes, Andrie still requires a number of medical procedures to address the condition of his skin and the burns on his body.
“For his body, he has undergone plastic surgery several times, and now there are a great many scars on the right side of his body and he is experiencing contracture of the skin. So, as of now, there is contracture on his right side, which will require plastic surgery, and there will also be an operation on his neck — skin surgery — and most importantly on his eyes,” Jane said.
“He is even still wearing a pressure garment, because without it his skin would sag and be pulled, due to the acidic nature of the corrosive liquid,” Jane added.
Once all the wounds have dried and can be treated, only then will Andrie enter the stage of aesthetic care.
“And later, once all the wounds have dried and can be treated, he will move on to aesthetics to try to restore the skin surface, or the scars,” she revealed.
Jane assesses that Andrie’s recovery process will still require a long time.
Andrie Yunus has undergone a number of operations to address the damage to his eyes as well as the burns he suffered.
“As I mentioned earlier, there have been three operations on his eyes and four plastic surgeries — seven in total,” said Jane.
The acid attack against Andrie occurred on 12 March 2026. At the time, Andrie was pursuing a challenge against the Military Justice Law and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Law before the Constitutional Court.
Previously, the Jakarta II High Military Court struck down the dismissal penalties and reduced the prison sentences of two defendants convicted of the acid attack against Andrie Yunus.
The ruling was handed down after the panel of judges granted the appeal filed by the defendants.
Based on the appeal ruling in case number 56-K/PMT-II/BDG/AL/VI/2026, the first defendant, Sergeant Edi Sudarko, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
The second defendant, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
The third defendant, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, was meanwhile sentenced to 2 years in prison, and the fourth defendant, First Lieutenant Sami Lakka, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
This appeal ruling overturns the decision of the Jakarta II-08 Military Court, Case Number 70-K/PM II-08/AL/IV/2026, dated 10 June 2026.
Under the first-instance ruling, the first defendant was sentenced to 3 years in prison and the second defendant was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison. In addition to the custodial sentences, the judges also imposed an additional penalty on both in the form of dismissal from military service.
Meanwhile, the third defendant was sentenced to 2 years in prison, and the fourth defendant was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
