Andrie Yunus Sends Message: Long Live the Struggle
Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras) Andrie Yunus conveyed a message and thanks to various parties who have provided support after becoming a victim of an acid attack.
Andrie’s voice message was uploaded via social media on the Instagram account @kontras_update, three weeks after the premeditated attempted murder incident allegedly involving personnel from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
“Thank you for all forms of support given to me to face the terror from cowardly individuals,” said Andrie in the voice message quoted by Tempo on Thursday, 2 April 2026. In the message, Andrie emphasised that he remains strong in facing the situation due to public support. “A luta continua. Long live the struggle,” Andrie concluded his message.
According to the @kontras_update upload, the voice recording was taken on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, while the human rights activist was still undergoing intensive care in the HCU room.
Andrie became a victim of corrosive chemical liquid splashing on 12 March 2026 in the Salemba I–Talang area, Central Jakarta. The incident is alleged to have been carried out by TNI BAIS personnel. Based on medical records, he suffered burns over more than 20 percent.
Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Legal Manager and Public Relations Yoga Nara stated that Andrie is scheduled to undergo further skin graft surgery within the next week. The surgery is to replace damaged skin tissue on the back of his neck.
Additionally, Yoga explained that Andrie underwent his third right eye surgery on 28 March 2026. During the procedure, the medical team found corneal thinning and leakage in the eyeball wall.
Meanwhile, the police have handed over the handling of this case to the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom). According to Puspom TNI’s statement, there are four suspected perpetrators of the splashing with initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES from the air and sea branches. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant.
