The Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya), as the respondent in the pretrial suit concerning the acid-attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, has reiterated that the investigation into the case is still ongoing. It was also stressed that the handover of case evidence to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) does not constitute an attempt to halt the proceedings covertly.

This was conveyed by one of the lawyers for Polda Metro Jaya, as the respondent, during a session at the South Jakarta District Court (Pengadilan Negeri Jakarta Selatan, PN Jaksel) on Thursday (21 May 2026). The agenda was the reading of Polda Metro Jaya’s answer as the respondent.

“The investigation is still actively proceeding, including witness examinations, seizure of evidence, forensic laboratory testing, dispatch of SPDP, issuing SP2HP, coordination among law enforcement agencies, and other investigative actions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he said.

Polda Metro Jaya emphasised that the evidence handed over to the TNI as part of inter-agency coordination. It is not intended to halt the investigation, as no SP3 (termination of investigation) order has been issued by Polda Metro Jaya to date.

“The submission of the evidence and its copies to Puspom TNI is solely for coordination purposes,” the advocate added.

“The argument by the applicant that the respondent has delayed the case handling or covertly halted the investigation is untrue,” he added.

The Polda Metro Jaya therefore asked the judge to dismiss or reject TAUD’s pretrial petition. It was hoped that the judge would determine that the investigations in this case are conducted professionally and in the public interest.

“If, Your Honour Single Judge, you disagree with this assessment, we ask for the fairest possible decision,” he said.

Background: Initially there were two reports of the acid-attack on Andrie Yunus handled by police. One report was first recorded by Polda Metro Jaya, and the second by the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of Polri. Later, Bareskrim handed the case to Polda Metro Jaya due to the similarity in location and timing of the incident.

In the pretrial hearing on Wednesday (20 May) TAUD asked the judge to order the police to proceed with the case. The petition’s points included:

  1. Ordering the respondent to appear directly in the a quo pretrial session.

  2. Then ruling to accept and grant the applicant’s request in full.

  3. Finding that the applicant has legal standing to bring the pretrial application in the matter at hand.

  4. Stating that the respondent has delayed the handling of the case based on police report LP/A/222/III/2026/Satreskrim/Restro Jakpus/Polda Metro Jaya dated 13 March 2026 without valid reasons.

  5. Stating that the respondent’s failure to proceed with the investigation based on police report LP/A/222/III/2026/Satreskrim/Restro Jakarta Pusat/Polda Metro Jaya dated 13 March 2026 and transferring the case without clarification constitutes an unlawful stoppage of the investigation.

  6. Ordering the respondent to continue the legal process against police report LP/A/222/III/2026/Satreskrim/Restro Jakarta Pusat/Polda Metro Jaya dated 13 March 2026 and refer the case to the public prosecutor no later than 14 days after this ruling is read.

  7. Ordering the respondent to bear the costs of the matter.
