Andrie Yunus Pre-Trial Case Enters Conclusion Stage, Verdict Set for 2 June
Pre-trial hearing for activist Andrie Yunus against Polda Metro Jaya (PMJ) has entered the conclusion stage at South Jakarta District Court. Presided over by Single Judge Suparna, both parties presented their final arguments regarding alleged delays in handling the assault case involving Yunus.
Yunus’s legal team from the Democracy Advocacy Team (TAUD) asserted that police intentionally stalled the legal process based on court evidence. They claimed there was an unofficial or covert attempt to halt proceedings related to Police Report No. LP/A/222/III/2026/Satreskrim/Restro Jakarta Pusat/Polda Metro Jaya.
In their petition, the plaintiffs urged the judge to declare police actions unlawful. “Declaring the respondent’s failure to continue the investigation and transfer the case without clarity constitutes an unlawful termination of investigation,” stated TAUD’s legal representative during Tuesday’s (26/5) hearing.
Additionally, Yunus’s side requested the court order Polda Metro Jaya to transfer the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office within 14 days of the verdict.
Conversely, Polda Metro Jaya’s legal team vehemently rejected all claims. They stated the legal process for Yunus’s report remains ongoing and professional. Police deemed the pre-trial lawsuit misdirected and premature. “Accepting the respondent’s exception. The plaintiff’s request is premature. There is no delay, transfer, or covert termination of investigation by the respondent,” the police’s legal representative stated in their petition.
The verdict hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, 2 June. “We will read the verdict on Tuesday, 2 June, aiming for 9am,” said Judge Suparna after the hearing.
Meanwhile, the military court is currently handling the case against four suspected TNI members accused of the acid attack on Yunus. This pre-trial aims to ensure the case is transferred to civilian jurisdiction.
TAUD legal member Alghiffari Aqsa emphasised that a pre-trial victory would pave the way for transferring the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (JPU).
The military court hearing is set to hear expert testimony from RSCM (Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital) officials.
The prosecution hearing for the four TNI members accused of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus has been postponed, with the new date set for 3 June 2026.
Yunus has begun outpatient treatment after a month of intensive care at RSCM following the acid attack.
TAUD discovered civilian involvement in the attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Police are urged to continue investigations despite the case being under military jurisdiction.
