Andrie Yunus Not Yet Examined as Case Concludes, Novel Baswedan Concerned

Former senior Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan has admitted to being shocked and worried because the case file for the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus has been handed over to military auditors. This transfer raises questions, as according to him, the victim has not been examined in the investigation process. “I was surprised to read the news that the case file for the acid attack on Andrie Yunus has been handed over to military auditors. Hasn’t Andrie Yunus been examined?” Novel said via a post on his X account on Wednesday (8/4). The post has been permitted for quotation. Novel stated that, reflecting on previous cases, attacks on activists are always handled superficially, with perpetrators receiving light sentences and the victims’ interests ignored. Novel is known to have been a victim of an acid attack himself. “From the start, there has been concern that the attempted planned murder case against Andrie Yunus would be handled superficially, and the perpetrators would receive light sentences, because it has been made to seem like the motive was personal. It’s very malicious; not only are the perpetrators not fully prosecuted, but the victim is even slandered,” he said. He supports and urges the formation of an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to uncover the case honestly and objectively. According to him, in that case, the actual evidence is very complete. “If the process through the military court is only superficial, it will become apparent. If the TGPF is not formed, and the process continues in the military court, and it turns out that some perpetrators are protected, it will become a problem in the future,” he said. TNI Pushpom investigators previously stated that they had completed the entire series of investigation processes in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. Then on Tuesday (7/4), the case file, the suspects, and evidence of the criminal act were handed over by TNI Pushpom investigators to Otmil II-07 Jakarta, to subsequently examine the completeness of the formal and material requirements of the file. “If the file is declared complete, it will be handed over to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta. The suspects handed over number four people with initials: NDP, SL, BHW, ES along with evidence,” said TNI Head of Information Centre (Kapuspen) Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah in a written statement.
