Andrie Yunus Not the Sole Target: Kontras Reveals Threat of 'Operation Sadang' to Other Activists
Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras), Dimas Bagus Arya, has revealed that the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus constitutes an intelligence operation. Based on an independent investigation by the Advocacy Team for Democracy, the attack is strongly suspected to be part of a structured intelligence operation codenamed ‘Operation Sadang’.
Dimas explained that this operation involved a far greater number of personnel than previously reported by law enforcement authorities. While the police and TNI’s Pushom have named four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) as suspects, Kontras’s findings indicate a much larger scale.
‘Our findings show that this operation involved 16 people or more. CCTV tracing and evidence searches using open-source intelligence devices have identified at least 16 individuals involved in the construction of this attack series, not including the intellectual actors,’ Dimas stated during a Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with Commission III of the DPR RI at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan on Tuesday (31/3).
Dimas said the Advocacy Team for Democracy’s investigation revealed that ‘Operation Sadang’ was carried out systematically. The attack began with meticulous planning, from surveillance efforts, stalking, to intensive monitoring of Andrie Yunus’s movements by parties previously identified as Unknown Persons (OTK).
Even more concerning, Dimas noted that Andrie Yunus is not the only target in this intelligence operation.
‘Operation Sadang began with a series of planning and stalking actions. The information we received indicates there are several other targets besides Mr Andrie Yunus,’ Dimas revealed.
The Chair of Kontras’s Board of Trustees, Indria Fernida, disclosed that Andrie Yunus is currently still undergoing intensive treatment in the High Care Unit (HCU) room.
Kontras is urging the DPR to encourage the President to form an Independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to thoroughly investigate the intellectual actors behind the acid attack on Andrie Yunus in order to safeguard democracy.
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is pressing the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) to take over the handling of the acid attack case against Kontras activist Andrie Yunus.
Kontras emphasises the importance of the National Police’s role in investigating this case transparently and accountably.
The principle of equality before the law must be upheld by bringing the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus to the general court, not the military court.
