Andrie Yunus Has Undergone Five Eye Surgeries After Being Splashed with Caustic Liquid

Member of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), Fatia Maulidiyanti, stated that KontraS activist Andrie Yunus is still receiving intensive care and has undergone five surgeries on his skin and eyes as a result of being splashed with caustic liquid by TNI members.

“Andrie has undergone around five surgeries for his skin and eyes. For his skin, a skin graft operation has been performed, involving grafting from his thigh to various parts of his body, including the chest, neck, and arms,” said Fatia during an action commemorating the 30th day of the acid attack in front of RSCM Hospital in Jakarta, as quoted by detikcom on Sunday (12/4).

Fatia said Andrie Yunus still needs to undergo treatment for several months ahead. In four months, she said, Andrie is scheduled to undergo eye surgery.

“So Andrie will continue treatment for several months ahead, and in four months, Andrie is planned to have another eye operation,” she stated.

Fatia explained that the condition of Andrie’s right eye is damaged after being hit by the caustic liquid. Andrie is at risk of losing vision in his right eye.

“So now we are praying that Andrie can have an eye transplant and recover, because the acid was very concentrated, ultimately causing his eyeball to melt, and as a result, Andrie is at risk of losing vision in his right eye,” she said.

Previously, Andrie Yunus became a victim of the caustic liquid attack on Thursday night (12/3).

The TNI’s Central Inspectorate then arrested four individuals suspected of carrying out the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. The four are known to be members of the Denma (Headquarters Detachment) of Bais TNI from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches.

The TNI has completed the investigation into the four TNI soldiers suspected of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. The four TNI soldiers have been handed over to the Military Prosecutor (Otmil) II-07 Jakarta.

Aulia said the case files of the four suspects will be examined by the Military Prosecutor’s office. If deemed complete, the four suspects will be tried in the Military Court.
