Andrie Yunus Followed by Acid Attacker from YLBHI Office to Salemba

Jakarta — Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS (Indonesian Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence), was already being followed by an acid attacker from the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, before being doused with acid.

The victim had initially left the YLBHI office to go to a petrol station at Cikini after participating in a podcast recording.

“So from the YLBHI office, the perpetrators started following the victim after the victim finished the event at YLBHI,” said Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, Director of General Criminal Investigation for the Jakarta Metro Police, during a press conference on Monday (16 March 2026).

Subsequently, the four perpetrators, riding two motorcycles, waited for the victim at a KFC in Cikini. They then continued following the victim along Jalan Diponegoro until reaching the crime scene on Jalan Salemba I near Talang I Bridge.

After carrying out the attack, the two motorcycles immediately sped away from the location. Residents attempted to chase them but they had already travelled too far.

According to Iman, the two motorcycles headed in different directions. One motorcycle turned towards South Jakarta, whilst the other headed towards East Jakarta. One of the perpetrators was captured on camera changing clothes before continuing their journey.

“Analysis of communication network data shows the perpetrators subsequently dispersed to the Kalibata, Ragunan, and Bogor areas,” Iman explained.

In total, police analysed footage from 86 surveillance points, including 7 electronic traffic violation system cameras, 27 cameras from the Jakarta Information and Communication Office, 8 from the Transportation Office, and 44 from residential areas, offices, and various buildings.

“Therefore, we require considerable time to conduct digital analysis of the CCTV footage along the route taken by the perpetrators,” Iman stated.

Earlier reports indicated that Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by an unknown assailant on Thursday evening. According to Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of KontraS’s Working Body, the incident occurred at 23:37 Western Indonesian Time as Andrie Yunus was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta.
