Andrie Yunus Case Uncovered After Acid Attackers Skip Morning Roll Call
The involvement of TNI members in the acid attack case against activist Andrie Yunus began to emerge after two of them failed to attend the morning roll call. This was revealed during a hearing focused on the indictment at the Jakarta Military Court on Wednesday (29/4). The defendants in this case are: Defendant I, Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko; Defendant II, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi; Defendant III, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo; and Defendant IV, First Lieutenant Sami Lakka. The prosecutor stated that Defendants I and II were also exposed to the chemical liquid they threw at Andrie. While fleeing after dousing Andrie, the two stopped by the roadside to buy two bottles of mineral water and rinsed the parts of their bodies affected by the chemical splashes because they felt burning sensations. The two then returned to the Mess Denma BAIS TNI in Kalibata. Upon arriving in their room, Defendants III and IV were already there. The next morning, Defendants III and IV attended the morning roll call, but Defendants I and II did not, citing illness. After the roll call, Defendants III and IV carried out their duties as usual and also tended to the wounds of Defendants I and II. Then, on 17 March, after the flag-raising ceremony, the Commander of Denma BAIS TNI, Colonel Inf Heri Haryadi, ordered the provost to examine Defendants I and II. The provost witness then reported to the Commander of Denma BAIS TNI that the two defendants were ill. The Commander of Denma BAIS TNI ordered the defendants to be taken to Denkes BAIS TNI. When Witness VI examined the physical condition of Defendants I and II, the witness observed chemical burn wounds on the right arm of Defendant II, while Defendant I had wounds across his entire face, a slightly swollen and watery right eye, burns on the right side of the neck base, burns on the right chest, and burns on the left arm. Witness VI then treated the wounds of the two defendants and asked how long they had been suffering from the burns. The defendants admitted to having the burns for three days. The Commander of Denma BAIS TNI then questioned the two defendants, but their answers were suspicious. The Commander of Denma BAIS TNI then contacted the Director of D BAIS TNI and reported the suspicions. Pursuant to orders from Director D BAIS TNI, Witness V (Lt Col Chk Alwi Hakim) conducted a deepening investigation into Defendants I and II by interviewing or eliciting information. As a result, Defendants I and II admitted to committing violence against Andrie Yunus, as reported virally in the media, and during the violence, they acknowledged the involvement of Defendants III and IV. Around 4:30 PM WIB, Witness I ordered Witness VII to secure the defendants to the detention cell of Denma BAIS TNI. Then, on 18 March 2026, around 10:00 AM WIB, pursuant to verbal orders from Kabais TNI, Witness I handed over the case of the defendants to Puspom TNI for processing under applicable law, the prosecutor stated.
