Andrie Yunus Case: Komnas HAM Identifies Three Non-Field Perpetrators
The National Commission on Human Rights has identified at least three non-field perpetrators allegedly involved in the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus. This finding was presented in the commission’s monitoring report on the case, released on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
“Suspected involvement of at least three other perpetrators, some not in the field,” said Pramono Ubaid Tantowi, Coordinator of the Human Rights Enforcement Subcommission of Komnas HAM, in a written statement on Tuesday.
Pramono stated that the findings resulted from Komnas HAM’s analysis of evidence including CCTV recordings, police communication traces or cell dumps, and witness testimonies.
In addition to the three non-field perpetrators, based on all these processes, Komnas HAM has also concluded that there are at least 14 field perpetrators who carried out the acid pouring and are interconnected, nine of whom are believed to have been identified as TNI members.
Beyond that, Komnas HAM found more than five other unidentified individuals engaging in suspicious activities around the acid attack location at the time of the incident. These perpetrators are suspected of communicating with each other using phone numbers with masked identities. The perpetrators reportedly registered their phone numbers using other people’s identities, including the name of a 5-year-old child, a housewife, and an elderly person.
According to Pramono, the suspected perpetrators only registered their SIM cards a few days before the event. “These numbers were only activated one to two days before the incident or on 10-11 March 2026,” he said.
Furthermore, Komnas HAM’s investigation views the attack on Andrie Yunus as highly planned and structured. Indicators include the perpetrators allegedly deliberately mixing dangerous chemicals, particularly sulphuric acid/H2SO4, which was formulated to produce maximum and permanent effects, reflecting intentional instrumental violence.
Additionally, the involvement of TNI members and the use of a house on Jalan Panglima Polim III, which is an asset of the Ministry of Defence, as the perpetrators’ headquarters further strengthens that this incident was meticulously orchestrated. “This finding is reinforced by expert testimony suspecting the attack as an operation within an intelligence framework, although further investigation is still needed to uncover the command chain and operational structure,” Pramono stated.
KontraS activist Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid on Jalan Salemba I, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, 12 March 2026. Prior to the incident, Andrie had just finished recording a podcast titled “Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the YLBHI office, around 23:00 WIB on Thursday night.
Currently, the Andrie Yunus case has been handed over to the military court. The panel of judges who will hear the case are Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto as chief judge, and Irwan Tasri and M. Zainal Abidin as member judges. The Military Court II-08 Jakarta has scheduled the first hearing of this case for Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
