Andrie Yunus Attacked with Corrosive Liquid; Palace: Presidential Order to Investigate Objectively
State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi expressed deep concern over the attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus with corrosive liquid. Hadi revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has issued an order for the case to be investigated objectively, openly, and as quickly as possible.
“Yes, of course we are very concerned about this incident and as the Chief of Police has already communicated, the President has ordered the investigation to be conducted objectively, openly, and as quickly as possible,” Hadi told journalists at the Defence Ministry office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (17/3/2026).
Earlier, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasised the National Police’s commitment to concluding the case of the corrosive liquid attack on Andrie Yunus. General Sigit stated that he had received a direct order from President Prabowo to investigate the case.
“Regarding developments in the attack on the activist, I have received a direct order from the President to conduct a thorough investigation in a professional and transparent manner,” General Sigit told journalists after reviewing holiday traffic flow at Surabaya’s Gubeng Main Station in East Java on Sunday (15/3/2026).
General Sigit explained that his team would employ scientific methods to uncover the case. Information gathering continues to be conducted by teams in the field.
“The steps we take will naturally prioritise scientific crime investigation. Currently we are gathering information, and this information will be examined one by one,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Director of Jakarta Metro Police, Brigadier General Iman Imanuddin, said the perpetrators numbered four people operating two motorcycles. The perpetrators scattered in different directions after the attack on Thursday (12/3) at 20:37 Western Indonesian Time.
He explained that one motorcycle carrying unknown persons 1 and 2 fled against traffic on Salemba Street towards Pasar Senen. The perpetrators then went to Kramat Raya Street, Tugu Tani, towards Gondangdia Station and subsequently towards South Jakarta.
“Then one vehicle carrying unknown persons 3 and 4, from the incident location did not reverse direction but went straight towards Pramuka Sari 2 Street, then towards Matraman, then monitored from CCTV towards the Jatinegara area, then to Otto Iskandar Dinata Street, East Jakarta,” Iman told journalists on Tuesday (17/3).
In CCTV recordings combined with digital processing, it was also found that one perpetrator appeared to change clothes during their escape. The perpetrators scattered to Kalibata and towards Bogor.
“After the incident, one perpetrator allegedly changed clothes before continuing their escape, and results from communication network analysis show the perpetrators subsequently scattered to the Kalibata area, Ragunan, and the Bogor area,” he said.
