Andrian, Suwandi to contest Masters final

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's top players Andrian Raturandang and Suwandi are to meet in the final of the 1996 BNI Indonesia Masters tomorrow for the title of the country's best player.

Andrian, a member of the country's Super Eight national team and a Davis Cupper, had to stretch to beat senior Sulistyo Wibowo 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in the final round of the group B round-robin matches at the Jakarta Hilton International Hotel.

Suwandi, who also joins the elite squad, defeated another old hand, Bonit Wiryawan, 6-3, 6-4 to take group A.

Bonit is to challenge Sulistyo in the battle for third and fourth places today. Both veteran players were heroes in the Davis Cup tie against China Taipei in September.

Another senior, Tjahjono, is to meet rookie Djanuar Radjab in the fifth-and-sixth-place clash.

Tjahjono had to work hard to beat former Davis Cupper Sebastian da Costa 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Djanuar beat another newcomer Edo Bawono 6-4, 6-1.

Sebastian is to face Edo in today's match for seventh place.

In the women's singles, Agustine Limanto overcame Wukirasih Sawondari 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 for the right to challenge Marieke Gunawan for the best player title.

Marieke had an easy win against Lianasari Batubara 6-2, 6-0.

Wukirasih meets Mimma Chernovita, who lost to Eny Sulistyowati 6-7 (3-7), 4-6, in today's match for third and fourth place.

Vinca Rampen, who beat Nuraeni 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, is to challenge Eny today while Nuraeni faces Lianasari.

Indonesia's top men's pair of Bonit and Sulistyo are to face Dony Susetyo and Surya Wijaya tomorrow.

Bonit and Sulistyo defeated Edo Bawono and Sebastian 7-6 (7- 5), 7-5 while Dony and Surya beat Djanuar and Feby Widhiyanto 6- 3, 3-6, 6-3.

Edo and Sebastian meet the National Games' gold medalists Suwandi and Andrian, who defeated Tjahjono and V Ariawan 6-2, 6- 2.

In the women's doubles, old hands Suzanna and Irawati are to face juniors Eny and Wynne Prakusya.

Suzanna and Irawati had to work hard to overcome Wukirasih and Mimma 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 while Eny and Wynne had an easy win against Agustine and Marieke 6-3, 6-3. (yan)
