Andrean seventh in World C'ships

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) Master (MP) Andrean Susilodinata, 10, recorded the best result among his teammates in the World Youth Chess Championship in Oropesa del Mar, Spain.

Competing in the 10-years age group, Andrean finished in seventh place out of 92 players. He defeated Russian Daniel Lintchevski on the 37th move of the Petrof defense on Monday.

Nguyen Ngoc Truong of Vietnam collected 9.5 VPs to proclaim himself world champion in Andrean's age group.

In the 12-years age group, MP Ferry Ferdiansyah only achieved world 16th ranking out of 90 players with 7 VPs. In the last round, he was defeated by Omid Norouzi of Ireland on the 35th move of the French defense.

Deep Sengupta of India became world champion in this group by collecting 9 VPs.

Playing in the 14-years age group, MP Susanto Megaranto beat Rafe Martyn of England on the 37th move of Sicilian defense. Collecting 7 VPs, Susanto, last year's bronze medalist, came in 17th out of 95 players.

Another player in the group, MP Taufik Halay was ranked 28th with 6 VPs. He tied with Kezli Ong of Sweden in the 53rd move of the Dutch defense.

The world champion in this group is Oleksandr Aryeshchenko of Ukraine with 9 VPs.

Competing in the 16-years age group, MP Tirta Chandra Purnama ended up in 26th place out of 85 players with 6.5 VPs. He was beaten by Bram Vermeulen of Belgium in the 25th move of the Slavic defense.

Zviad Izoria of Georgia is world champion in this group with 9.5 VPs. (nvn)
