Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Andre Rosiade is urging the regional organisation Ikatan Keluarga Minang (IKM) to increase investment in West Sumatra to create employment opportunities. Andre stated that Minang migrants have been sending funds amounting to around Rp20 trillion per year to their home region. However, in the future, such contributions are expected not only to take the form of remittances but also investments. “It is not just money sent from abroad to the homeland, but also investments to build industries and open up job opportunities,” Andre said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Saturday. “IKM is spread across all regions of Indonesia and also in various countries,” he added. As the General Chairman of the IKM Central Board, Andre affirmed that his organisation will act as a strategic partner to local governments in areas where Minang migrants reside. “IKM will be a constructive partner to local governments,” he stated. The event involved various Minang figures from diverse sectors. Several names in the management include Donny Oskaria as Chairman of the Advisory Board and Afriansyah Noor as Deputy General Chairman.
