Andre Rosiade to Hotman: Do Not Link Febrie's Case to President Prabowo

Gerindra Party spokesperson Andre Rosiade has asked lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea not to drag President Prabowo Subianto’s name into the legal case ensnaring former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. Andre stressed that the matter has absolutely no connection to the President. “I ask Hotman Paris, never link the defence of former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah with President Prabowo. It has nothing to do with him at all,” Andre said in a written statement on Sunday (19/7/2026). Andre, who is Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, guaranteed that Prabowo has never intervened in legal processes. He cited Prabowo’s stance when cabinet members or regional heads face legal troubles. “It can be confirmed that Mr Prabowo has never intervened in legal cases. We can see that when a deputy minister faced legal issues, Mr Prabowo did not interfere at all. Likewise with regional heads. He is in a position of fully supporting law enforcement,” he stated. The Secretary of the Gerindra Faction in the People’s Consultative Assembly reminded of the government’s commitment to eradicating corruption. According to him, Prabowo always views corruption and budget leakage as a ‘cancer’ that harms the people. He said Prabowo’s firm stance is proven by the government’s relentless pursuit of state money thieves. Andre also said Prabowo is committed to chasing corruptors to the ends of the earth to save the people’s money. He said Prabowo is very strict with his cabinet. Prabowo does not hesitate to issue ultimatums to his ranks who try to play around with the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). “Mr Prabowo often gives harsh ultimatums to cabinet members. He stated that officials or ministers who do not share the anti-corruption commitment and intend to seek personal gain from the state budget are welcome to leave his government,” Andre said. Andre mentioned that the President continues to push for corruption prevention efforts. One of the main focuses is reforming the procurement of goods and services system, which is often a vulnerable point for corruption. “The President is pushing for bureaucratic digitalisation, the use of technology, and the use of e-catalogues in the procurement system. The goal is to reduce direct contact between the private sector and commitment-making officials, which is often a vulnerable point for bribery and collusion,” he said. Previously, Hotman claimed that the case trapping Febrie is a criminalisation. He even admitted he does not expect any money from Febrie, who is his client. “I don’t expect money from this Jampidsus because I know it’s impossible for him to pay me, it’s expensive. My fees are super expensive in Indonesia,” Hotman told the media at the Attorney General’s Office Round Building in South Jakarta on Friday (17/7) evening. Hotman then revealed his reason for being willing to step in to defend Febrie. He invoked the name of President Prabowo Subianto, whom he acknowledged as his loyal client for decades. “Remember, I was Prabowo’s lawyer for 25 years. I handled all his major cases, including his brother Mr Hashim’s. Even when he was Minister of Defence, I was often asked for legal assistance without being paid,” Hotman revealed. Because of this, he admitted to feeling concerned seeing Febrie’s current condition. To him, Febrie is an accomplished figure who is the pride of President Prabowo for successfully saving a fantastic amount of state assets. “The Jampidsus is someone President Prabowo is proud of. He recovered state losses of Rp 130 trillion, plus the PKH Task Force’s Rp 300 trillion. A total of Rp 430 trillion returned to the state. Imagine, someone the President is proud of suddenly being criminalised without the President’s knowledge,” he said.
