Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Andre Rosiade, has again organised the free mudik programme ‘pulang basamo’ in 2026. A total of 250 buses will be deployed to transport thousands of homebound travellers free of charge.

‘This is indeed the fourth year we are conducting this event. In the first year 75 buses, the second year 200 buses, last year 250 buses; this year, God willing, the fourth year, 250 buses,’ Rosiade told reporters after seeing off the first convoy of free mudik at the DPR/MPR complex in Jakarta on Sunday (8 March 2026).

Rosiade said the mudik free service is held to assist residents of West Sumatra (Sumatera Barat). He stressed there is not a single rupiah charged from the travellers.

‘This programme is part of Mr Prabowo’s commitment to help the people of West Sumatra, including the migrants from West Sumatra who wish to return home. It is being conducted free of charge; the tickets were snapped up within half an hour. Passengers will also receive snacks and meals on the bus. We also express thanks to the West Sumatra Police Chief; from departure to arrival in West Sumatra, the journey is escorted directly by Polda Sumatera Barat,’ he said.

Rosiade explained the 250 buses will depart to two destinations. The first is Padang, and the second is Bukittinggi.

‘The destinations are West Sumatra, with two stops. The first in Padang, in front of the West Sumatra Grand Mosque, where it will be escorted by Polda Sumbar. The second in front of the Kantin Field in Bukittinggi. But the pilgrims can alight anywhere; the two stops are these,’ he added.
