Andre Rosiade says Prabowo has prepared Rp18.9 trillion to rebuild West Sumatra after the disaster
The Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Andre Rosiade, spoke about President Prabowo Subianto’s role in rebuilding West Sumatra after a natural disaster. He said that to date the state has disbursed Rp18.9 trillion to reconstruct West Sumatra. ‘I want to emphasise that President Prabowo, in anticipation of the natural disasters that recently affected West Sumatra, has prepared a budget of Rp18.9 trillion to rebuild West Sumatra. That is only for infrastructure,’ Rosiade told reporters after formally seeing off the first convoy of free return-home travellers at the DPR/MPR complex, Jakarta, on Sunday (8 March 2026). He said Prabowo is also addressing other matters such as improving rice fields, farmland, and building new houses. In addition, he said, Prabowo has instructed his subordinates to reopen several toll roads in West Sumatra. ‘Apart from improving rice fields, fields, and houses. God willing, in October 2026 he has tasked the Public Works Minister with rebuilding the toll road in West Sumatra from Sicincin to Bukittinggi worth Rp25.6 trillion,’ he said. ‘So this is the central government’s commitment, thus not only Pulang Basamo, infrastructure is being built in West Sumatra by the Prabowo administration. This is Mr Prabowo’s commitment to helping West Sumatra,’ he continued. Then, Andre also spoke about growth in Sumbar’s economy, which is relatively low. He said many parties are always trying to help Sumbar. ‘Yes, so we know that West Sumatra’s economic growth is only 3 percent, inflation 6 percent, this is burdensome. And thankfully, Sumbar has been helped so far; first, Minangkabau migrants always send 20 trillion per year, so the economy can be aided at home,’ he said.
