Andre Rosiade Prepares 10 Buses for Minang Migrants in Semarang
Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the DPR RI, Andre Rosiade, is preparing as many as 10 buses to facilitate Minang migrants, particularly Minangkabau students in Semarang, in returning home to West Sumatra (Sumbar) together. This additional 10 buses came about after Andre directly heard the aspirations of students grouped in the Minang Student Association (IKAMMI) Semarang. With the number of Minang students reaching hundreds in the city, transportation needs for returning home are considered one of the important matters, especially during long holiday periods. “If we prepare 10 buses, that means hundreds of students can return home together. This is a form of our attention to migrants,” said Andre, in a written statement on Monday (27/4/2026). Andre explained that this programme is not only intended to help with transportation costs but also to strengthen togetherness among Minang students in migration. Collective travel is seen as a means to strengthen solidarity and build networks among students. In addition, Andre noted that high travel costs often become an obstacle for students to return home. With the provision of buses, this burden can be significantly reduced. The provision of these 10 buses is also hoped to become a regular agenda in the future, in line with the increasing number of Minang students in various regions, including Semarang. Although focused on transportation, Andre still encourages students to continue improving their capacities while pursuing education. Andre hopes this support can provide additional motivation for students to excel without forgetting their hometown. The plan to provide 10 buses has been positively welcomed by IKAMMI Semarang students, who view this step as a tangible form of concern for Minang migrants as well as a concrete solution to transportation needs for returning home.
