The Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR) from the Gerindra Party, Andre Rosiade, stated that President Prabowo Subianto is preparing a massive expansion of the Jabodetabek and surrounding electric commuter rail (KRL) network to enhance mass transport service capacity. President Prabowo is reportedly set to develop new KRL lines extending to Sukabumi, Cikampek, and Cilegon.

This was conveyed by Andre Rosiade following a hearing between Commission VI of the DPR and the President Director of PT KAI, Bobby Rasyidin, at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (3/6/2026). According to Andre, the government intends to expand the existing KRL network to reach wider areas and serve more passengers.

“President Prabowo is paying great attention to train commuters. Therefore, the government will expand the KRL network so that the public has increasingly comfortable and affordable transportation options,” said Andre, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party Faction in the DPR.

Andre Rosiade explained that the KRL line currently operating from Jakarta to Cikarang will be extended to Cikampek. Construction of this line is targeted to begin this year and will subsequently continue towards Purwakarta. Additionally, the Jakarta-Bogor line, which is already operational, will be developed to reach Sukabumi. Meanwhile, for the Jakarta-Rangkasbitung line, the government will first increase station capacity before proceeding with the construction of the line towards Cilegon, Banten.

“In the future, there will be developments for the Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Sukabumi, and Jakarta-Cilegon KRL lines. This is a form of President Prabowo’s commitment to public transport users,” said the Chairman of the Indonesian Minang Family Association (IKM).

He noted that the network expansion aims not only to extend service coverage but also to increase daily passenger capacity. “Currently, the number of KRL users ranges from 1.1 to 1.3 million people per day. With the planned network expansion and capacity increases, the target is to reach approximately 1.6 million users per day,” he said.

Andre assessed that the KRL development will have a significant impact on public mobility, reduce congestion, and encourage growth in Jakarta’s satellite regions. “This is a long-term investment for Indonesia’s public transport. The more people use the train, the more efficient mobility becomes and the better the quality of life for urban residents,” Andre added.
