Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 H, Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives Commission VI Andre Rosiade distributed 5,000 basic necessities packages to the people of Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra.

The aid was spread across eight sub-districts and prioritised for residents in need, as a form of concern and support ahead of the blessed month.

The distribution of basic necessities packages was centred at the Sijunjung Regional Parliament Building. Recipients from various nagari (villages) were seen enthusiastically filling the venue.

In the initial phase, packages were distributed to residents from four sub-districts: Kupitan, Sijunjung, IV Nagari and Lubuk Tarok.

The remaining four sub-districts — Sumpur Kudus, Koto VII, Tanjung Gadang and Kamang Baru — will receive assistance in stages until all 5,000 packages have been distributed.

Sijunjung Regent Benny Dwifa expressed his appreciation for Andre’s concern for the community. Benny assessed that the assistance was highly meaningful for residents, particularly in facing increased household needs ahead of Ramadan.

“On behalf of the regional government, we extend our thanks and appreciation for Bang Andre Rosiade’s concern in providing basic necessities to the people of Sijunjung. This is very helpful for residents, especially as we are about to enter the month of Ramadan,” said Benny in a written statement on Wednesday (18 February 2026).

According to Benny, the period leading up to Ramadan is an apt time for sharing and helping those in need. He hoped the assistance would ease the economic burden on residents and serve as a charitable deed for all parties involved.

“We hope this assistance will be beneficial and help meet the kitchen needs of the community ahead of Ramadan. This kind of concern means a great deal to our people,” said Benny.

On the same occasion, Deputy Chairman of the Sijunjung Regional Parliament Syahril Syamra explained that the distribution was being carried out in stages to reach all sub-districts.

Syahril also conveyed his apologies that Andre, who had originally been scheduled to attend in person, was unable to be present as he was still in Nagari Garabak Data, Tigo Lurah Sub-district, Solok Regency — a very remote area requiring up to eight hours of travel for the round trip.

Syahril added that approximately one thousand packages had been distributed in the first phase at the Sijunjung Regional Parliament Building to residents from four sub-districts. Distribution would continue on a rotating basis until all 5,000 packages had been delivered.

“This is a routine agenda of Pak Andre Rosiade that is carried out nearly every year across various regencies and cities in West Sumatra. The aim is to help the community, especially ahead of Ramadan,” explained Syahril.

Meanwhile, Andre conveyed his greetings to the people of Sijunjung and expressed gratitude to the regional government officials who had represented him in distributing the aid.

“Thank you to Pak Bupati and Pak Datuk Syahril Syamra for representing us. This is also part of Sijunjung Regency’s anniversary celebrations and, God willing, we will come,” said Andre.

Andre added that his agenda in Garabak Data was part of a series of working visits to ensure that infrastructure development and basic services for communities in remote areas continued to progress. As such, he had been unable to attend the distribution event in Sijunjung in person.

One of the recipients, Mimi (50), a resident of Nagari Sijunjung, expressed her gratitude for the assistance. Mimi said the basic necessities package was very helpful for her family’s kitchen needs ahead of fasting.

“Thank you, Pak Andre. We mothers feel greatly helped by this assistance,” said Mimi.

“The fasting month is almost here, so kitchen needs are naturally a priority,” she added.

She also said it was the first time she had received such assistance and hoped similar activities would continue.

“Alhamdulillah, this is very helpful. May Pak Andre always be blessed with health and sustenance to continue helping the community,” said Mimi.

The distribution of basic necessities by Andre forms part of routine social activities carried out across various areas in West Sumatra. The event is also part of the celebrations marking the 18th anniversary of the Gerindra Party. Beyond helping ease the burden on communities, the activity is also hoped to strengthen social bonds and foster a spirit of mutual cooperation ahead of Ramadan.
