Andre Rosiade Assists Wife of Scavenger with Acute Diabetes in Padang
Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Faction, Andre Rosiade, handed over aid amounting to Rp 10 million to Yustini (64), a resident of Parak Gadang, Padang Timur Subdistrict, Padang City. Yustini suffers from acute diabetes to the point where she can no longer walk.
The handover of the aid was witnessed by the Head of Parak Gadang Neighbourhood, Hendrizal. Yustini’s condition is highly concerning. She has been bedridden for a long time and is only cared for by her husband, Surismo (77), who works daily as a scavenger with limited income.
Economic limitations have prevented Yustini from receiving optimal medical treatment so far, even though her illness is in a serious category and risks causing severe complications.
Andre emphasised that the aid is given so that Yustini can immediately receive follow-up medical care. He also warned that untreated diabetes can lead to festering wounds that may result in amputation if not addressed promptly.
“We are providing Rp 10 million in aid from the Gerindra Party. Hopefully, it will be beneficial and she can be taken to the hospital soon,” Andre explained in a written statement on Monday (20/4/2026).
“Please also monitor and assist in handling it, Mr. Neighbourhood Head,” he added.
In addition to providing direct aid, Andre also requested that the neighbourhood government immediately coordinate with local health workers so that Yustini receives routine check-ups. Andre stressed the importance of quick follow-up to prevent the patient’s condition from worsening.
“If not treated seriously, it risks amputation. Please follow it up immediately, send a doctor for routine checks,” Andre asserted.
Furthermore, Andre encouraged assistance for Yustini’s husband, Surismo, who works as a scavenger, to be included in community empowerment programmes so that he can have a stable monthly income, ensuring the family’s living needs are more secure.
Meanwhile, Surismo expressed profound gratitude for the attention and aid provided. Surismo said that his wife has been ill for a long time but has not received maximum treatment due to financial constraints.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you Mr. Andre Rosiade. This aid is very beneficial for my wife,” said Surismo.
“We really need it for treatment,” he added.
In addition, the Head of Parak Gadang Neighbourhood, Hendrizal, expressed thanks for Andre’s attention to his residents.
“Thank you Mr. Andre Rosiade for coming and helping our residents. Insyaallah, we will continue to pay attention to our residents,” he concluded.
