Andra Soni Visits Jatiwaringin Landfill, Says Fire Handling Progressing Well

Banten Governor Andra Soni visited the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) in Tangerang Regency on Thursday (2/6/2026) to ensure that firefighting efforts are proceeding well and the blaze will be resolved soon. Governor Andra Soni held a meeting with the joint firefighting team led by Tangerang Regent Maesyal Rasyid.

“This fire occurred a few days ago. The waste pile is in weather conditions that, according to BMKG estimates, are the hottest and longest heat period in the last 30 years,” Andra Soni stated. “This is one of the causes of the waste fire at the Jatiwaringin TPA. The fire then spread due to wind factors,” he added.

According to Andra Soni, the presence of methane gas beneath the pile must be anticipated, and he requested that access to the landfill area be restricted. “From discussions with relevant parties, access to the site is being limited and coordinated. The district and city governments are also assisting,” he explained.

The Banten Provincial Government has also deployed teams and is conducting monitoring and anticipatory measures. He noted that such a fire is not the first incident, as a similar event previously occurred at the Rawa Kucing TPA. “Let us all pray that the Regent is given strength in leading Tangerang Regency. For the past three days, he has been directly leading the firefighting efforts at the Jatiwaringin TPA,” he said.

He explained that firefighting efforts are being continuously strengthened through support from the central government. “Today, Alhamdulillah, two helicopters from the central government have been deployed because the fire on top of the waste pile cannot be extinguished solely from the ground,” he said.

Andra Soni revealed that the height of the waste pile at the Jatiwaringin TPA is estimated to be equivalent to a seven-storey building. He said this condition serves as a reminder that the volume of waste produced by the public is enormous and requires better management. “It would be much better if household waste could be sorted and managed properly. That way, the cost burden on the government can be reduced and the budget can be utilised for other public interests,” Andra Soni concluded.
