Andi Gani Warns Dasco: 55,000 Workers Face Layoffs Within 10 Days
President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, stated that 55,000 workers are at risk of termination of employment (PHK) as a result of rising industrial gas prices. This was conveyed by Andi Gani before Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, during the KSPI National Working Meeting in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (23/6). In his presentation, Andi Gani said the ceramics industry is experiencing difficulties due to the increase in industrial gas prices. He stated that at least 55,000 workers from the Milenium Keramik and Mulia Keramik factories are threatened with dismissal. “Next week, within a maximum of ten days, 55,000 people will be laid off. This is a concern for all of us because of industrial gas,” he said. He expressed hope that the government could find a solution as soon as possible. Andi Gani is concerned that if the problem is not resolved, the wave of layoffs could spread further to the textile industry. “This is distressing for all of us, so I ask Bang Dasco to find a quick solution to the industrial gas problem because the price of gas has gone from 6 dollars to 23 dollars per day now,” he explained. “So this is very alarming. Soon the textile industry will follow; basically, any industry that uses industrial gas will be heavily affected,” he added.
