Andi Gani Reveals Imminent Layoff Threat, Assures Workers Government Will Act Swiftly

President of the Confederation of All-Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, has revealed that hundreds of thousands of workers are threatened with layoffs. Andi Gani confirmed that the government is moving quickly to make decisions regarding the fate of these workers. This was conveyed by Andi Gani after a meeting with the Layoff Task Force and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the Parliament Complex on Friday. Initially, Andi Gani stated that the meeting was highly effective. “Today’s meeting was very effective. The KSPSI confederation which I lead is the most severely impacted; 55,000 workers are already facing an immediate threat, and one company, PT Granito, has already shut down,” Andi Gani said. He explained that three days ago, the company summoned its employees and announced the layoff of all its workers. He noted that one of the discussions in today’s meeting concerned the fate of these 55,000 workers under immediate threat. “Because of this, the meeting decided that within one or two days the government will soon make an announcement regarding industrial gas, and hopefully, this can salvage the very critical situation,” he said. Additionally, the meeting discussed the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB), an issue that also threatens hundreds of thousands of workers. Nevertheless, Andi Gani is confident the government will make a swift decision. The RKAB issue is known to have triggered mass anxiety among workers. “Secondly, the RKAB issue also holds enormous potential, threatening layoffs for 150,000 workers, but I am confident the government will make a swift and careful decision,” he stressed. Andi Gani once again urged workers to remain calm. He also assured them that the government is on the side of both workers and employers. “To my fellow workers who are currently awaiting the results of this meeting, I assure you the government is on the side of both workers and employers, aiming for a win-win solution. Hopefully, by Monday there will be a decision regarding industrial gas and the RKAB,” he said.
