Andi Gani Admits to Rejecting Offer to Become Minister

JAKARTA - Andi Gani Nena Wea, President of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Workers’ Unions, admitted that he once rejected an offer for a ministerial position from President Prabowo Subianto. The statement was made by Andi Gani in response to various negative allegations following the 2026 May Day commemoration. “I was offered a ministerial post, I rejected it, that’s it. So, what more am I seeking? Nothing,” said Andi Gani to Kompas.com on Wednesday night (6/5/2026). Andi Gani mentioned that at the time, he had been asked to fill a leadership position in the National Labour Welfare Council (DKBN). “I was offered a ministerial role, offered a cabinet position, but I still chose to operate from outside as a labour leader,” he stated. It is known that the DKBN is a new ministerial-level nomenclature that was previously planned to be established to address various labour issues. “When we learned that it would be formed as a council with a ministerial-level budget, we instead suggested to the President, ‘Sir, this will waste state funds’. So we recommended forming a simpler and more tactical task force,” he said.
