Ancol fireworks party waits for permit

JAKARTA: Ancol Dreamland, a recreation park in North Jakarta, plans to hold a fireworks display on the eve of Jakarta's 476th anniversary, but the organizing committee has not obtained the necessary permit.

"Hopefully the police permit will immediately be issued," said the park's deputy marketing director Waluyo on Tuesday.

Waluyo said that the organizing committee has prepared a 15- minute fireworks display with some 1,000 explosive fireworks. The party is the peak event to commemorate the Jakarta anniversary, which will also feature many local entertainers.

The fireworks display has become a tradition in Ancol during several major events like the New Year's Eve and Jakarta anniversary.

But the Jakarta Police require that event organizers should seek a permit from the police if they want to hold such an event.--Antara
