Ananda finishes 8th in Monza

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's young racer, Ananda Mikola, only finished eighth in the second leg of the Formula 3000 series at the Monza Circuit, Italy, on Sunday.

Finishing first in the official practice, Ananda, who was driving under the banner of the Edenbridge Racing team, failed in the race after his car crashed into Gabrielle Lancieri's of Sighinotfi Motorsport.

The winner of the second leg was Marco Apicella of the Monaco team followed by Giorgio Vinella of the Martello racing team and Werner Lupberger of the Edenbridge team.

Ananda, who is on the fourth pole position, was overtaken by Mark Shaw of the Redgrave team in the second lap. When Shaw was in overtaking position, his car hit Ananda's, which broke the 20- year-old Indonesian's car's left suspension.

From the 17th to 21st lap, Ananda managed to move from fifth position to fourth. Unfortunately, he had another crash with Lancieri when the Italian tried to overtake Ananda's car.

Antara reported that by finishing eighth, Ananda only grabbed two points after finishing fifth in the first leg of the Vallelunga Circuit. The F3000 race was competed by 15 racers.

The third leg will take place at the Pergusa Circuit on July 18. (yan)
