Ananda Bersinar Movement: A Strategy to Protect the Young Generation from Narcotics
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia continues its efforts to protect the younger generation from the dangers of drugs. Various strategies have been implemented, one of which is the Ananda Bersinar Movement (National Anti-Narcotics Action Starting from Children Free of Narcotics).
BNN RI Head Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto said the programme not only provides education on the dangers of narcotics, but also builds character, strengthens personal resilience, improves life skills, and reinforces the roles of family, school and the social environment.
The agency believes prevention must be carried out from an early age, because a child who is physically healthy and well educated still risks losing their future if they lack the ability to refuse drug abuse.
“We designed the Ananda Bersinar movement to run in step with the major human resource development agenda led by the President. Because a child who is physically healthy, well nourished and receives a good education, but has no defences against narcotics, remains at risk of losing their future,” said Commissioner General Suyudi.
To strengthen the prevention ecosystem, BNN is also collaborating with ministries and agencies such as the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen).
This collaboration drives the integration of the anti-narcotics curriculum (KAN) into the learning process through existing school subjects. The programme is expected to become a vehicle for educating the younger generation about the dangers of drug abuse.
“We have also initiated the strengthening of the movement through Saka Narkotika, or the Anti-Narcotics Scout Unit,” Commissioner General Suyudi concluded.
As additional information, BNN records that the national prevalence of drug abuse currently stands at 2.11%, or around 4.15 million people. The largest increase comes from the 15-24 age group, which is a productive generation and the future drivers of national development.
