Analyst Urges Thorough Investigation into Intellectual Actors in Former JAM-Pidsus Money Laundering Case
A public policy analyst, Gian Kasogi, has urged law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU) case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (JAM-Pidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. The case is considered a crucial test for the integrity and credibility of law enforcement in Indonesia.
Gian stressed that investigators must not only focus on the predicate crime of corruption but also trace the flow of funds, asset ownership, and financial transactions using Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning TPPU to recover state assets. “Large-scale corruption generally involves a complex network. The investigation must be directed at uncovering all parties suspected of playing a role, whether as main perpetrators, beneficiaries of the crime, or those suspected of providing protection,” Gian said during a discussion in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Criminal Law Expert Mohammad Saleh Gawi called on the public to strictly monitor the handling of the case following its transfer from the police to the Attorney General’s Office. He highlighted the dynamics and the unclear legal status of Febrie Adriansyah after the case was taken over internally by the prosecution service. Saleh also cautioned against indications of opinion manipulation that could potentially allow the suspect to escape legal consequences, such as narratives suggesting that the gold evidence does not belong to the suspect or that the seized money is counterfeit. “If this is the scenario, then clearly there is no criminal act, so the former Jampidsus could potentially be released. The public needs to strictly monitor this case to ensure FA is not let off through unlawful means,” Saleh stated.
The Attorney General’s Office has issued an Investigation Order for the TPPU case related to the alleged corruption involving 74 kg of gold evidence and hundreds of billions of rupiah in foreign currency implicating Febrie Adriansyah. The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police has transferred the suspect in the alleged TPPU case, Don Ritto, along with the evidence. The role of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) is considered very crucial in supplying financial intelligence data free from political intervention.
