Analyst Says National Internship Programme Answers Public Needs

Political analyst Hendri Satrio (Hensa) has stated that the National Internship Programme 2026, announced by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Manpower Minister Yassierli, addresses one of the public’s current needs. “This programme is a good move because it answers one of the public’s current needs, especially for fresh graduates who face challenges entering the workforce,” Hensa said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. He noted that the Cabinet Secretary and the Manpower Minister communicated the message well, conveying that the government understands the significant problem facing young people: graduating from university does not guarantee immediate employment. According to Hensa, the clear communication from both officials has raised public expectations for the programme. However, the founder of the KedaiKOPI survey institute advised the government to ensure the national internship programme has sustainability. He also suggested that the government needs to guarantee job opportunities for participants and strengthen industry involvement so that they gain real work experience and career prospects. The government has prepared a budget of IDR 4.2 trillion for the 2026 National Internship Programme (MagangHub), with a quota of 50,000 participants for the first batch. Manpower Minister Yassierli announced that registration will open from 15 to 28 July. Cabinet Secretary Teddy stated that the programme serves as a real bridge for fresh graduates to enter the professional world. He acknowledged that the government still has significant work to do in the employment sector, particularly in ensuring young workforce entrants can quickly integrate into the industry.
