Analyst: Roblox's Compliance with PP Tunas Regulation Shows Respect for Child Protection

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Telecommunications expert Heru Sutadi views the gaming platform Roblox’s decision to fully comply with PP Tunas as a form of respect for child protection efforts in the digital realm.

“Roblox’s decision to comply with PP Tunas is worthy of appreciation, even though there is a delay from the 28 March 2026 deadline. Ultimately, this compliance is important as a form of respect for regulations in Indonesia as well as protection for children,” Heru said when contacted by ANTARA on Thursday.

Heru also appreciated the government’s firm stance in ensuring that global digital platforms do not ignore applicable regulations in Indonesia.

The Executive Director of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Institute stressed that consistent supervision is key to ensuring this compliance is not merely formal but truly impactful.

“The main challenge is that there are still around 1,600 high-risk PSE that need to be monitored. The figure of 1,600 PSE comes from a realistic estimate of 10 per cent of registered PSE, totaling 16,469 PSE,” Heru stated.

According to him, the government needs to encourage accelerated self-assessment from all PSE, followed by evaluating the risk levels they report.

From the platform’s side, Heru views the feature adjustments made by Roblox in accordance with PP Tunas provisions as a positive step, but not yet sufficient to guarantee full protection from exposure to negative content.

“It needs to be ensured that the implementation is truly effective, one of which can be seen from indicators such as a decrease in the number of child users on risky features. In addition, moderation strengthening, system audits, and transparency need to be enhanced,” he explained.

It is known that Minister of Communications and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid announced that the gaming platform Roblox has fully complied with PP Tunas as a regulation to keep Indonesian children safe in the digital space by committing to prepare special arrangements regarding game access for children.

“So we appreciate Roblox which has conveyed its compliance commitment, where Roblox has started to conduct age verification for all its users,” Meutya said.

With Roblox’s compliance with PP Tunas, it means that all eight digital platforms designated to undergo the initial implementation of this regulation have met the stipulated provisions.
