Jakarta (ANTARA) - Intelligence, defence, and security analyst Ngasermon Djoyonegoro believes that Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto can continue the transformation of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) sustainably after receiving approval from the House of Representatives (DPR RI) as the Chief of National Police.

In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Ngasiman stated that the ‘Police with the Community’ concept championed by Suyudi demonstrates an evolving perspective in the Polri transformation previously implemented during the leadership of General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The House of Representatives approved Suyudi as Chief of National Police on Thursday, replacing Listyo Sigit, after Commission III of the DPR RI had previously approved Suyudi by acclamation during the fit and proper test.

Ngasiman, affectionately known as Simon, believes that the term ‘with the community’ promoted by Suyudi carries a meaning deeper than a mere change in slogan.

“The police are not just present for the community, but work alongside the community. This means that security cannot be solely the burden of the police. There are local communities, regional governments, community leaders, the education sector, the business world, and various other elements that all have a role,” he said.

Simon assessed that the future leadership challenges for Polri involve not only strengthening law enforcement but also ensuring that the public experiences police services that are fast, fair, transparent, and easily accessible.

In this context, he linked the ‘Police with the Community’ idea to the ‘Kamtibmas Belt’ (Public Order and Security Belt) concept, which positions security as a shared ecosystem.

“The Kamtibmas Belt views security as something multi-layered. The police remain the institution with law enforcement authority, but the community also becomes part of the security system. Bhabinkamtibmas (community police officers), Community Policing (Polmas), community leaders, social capital, technology, intelligence, and early detection systems can all be part of that belt,” he said.

Simon also noted that Suyudi’s experience in various strategic positions, including as the Head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN), could serve as an asset in facing increasingly cross-sectoral crimes and security threats.

However, he warned that the next leadership challenge for Polri is to ensure that these various ideas do not merely remain as jargon.

During the fit and proper test at Commission III of the DPR RI on Thursday, Suyudi presented ‘Police with the Community’ as the major theme for his leadership direction within Polri.
