Analyst: Ramadan Safari and Social Service Initiatives Are Part of Polri's Humanist Transformation
Senior political analyst Boni Hargens praised the Polri’s performance under the leadership of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo during the holy month of Ramadan 2026. He said the Ramadan Safari program and Bakti Sosial that the Bhayangkara corps carried out this year are tangible reflections of institutional transformation that is increasingly loved by the public. According to Boni, Polri now presents itself not merely as law enforcers but as a strategic partner of the government and as sincere public servants. This is evident in the close synergy Polri has with various ministries to maintain the sanctity of worship and the stability of staple food prices. ‘Polri has proven itself as an indispensable strategic partner. From ensuring the safety of worship to controlling staple food prices that directly affect ordinary people,’ Boni said in a statement on Saturday, 7 March 2026. Boni highlighted a fundamental change in Polri’s organisational culture. One of the most striking indicators of success is the significant decline in arrests related to protests, indicating a shift from a repressive to a dialogic approach. Data over the past four years show impressive internal reform results, with violence cases down by up to 80 percent and abuse of power slumping sharply by 83 percent. ‘The significant reductions in various misconduct cases reflect a consistent and bold internal reform. Polri has transformed from a feared institution into one that is loved,’ Boni asserted. The Ramadan Safari 2026 programme is also regarded as highly concrete. Thousands of Polri personnel directly visited orphanages, elderly care homes, and underprivileged families to distribute donations and food parcels. Additionally, the Chief of Police and senior leadership were observed actively carrying out safaris to various mosques and pesantrens to directly solicit public aspirations. ‘This step is not merely an administrative procedure but a paradigm shift that places the public at the centre of all policing policy. Polri is part of Indonesia’s large family that serves, protects and nurtures from Sabang to Merauke,’ he concluded. (H-2) Polri said it would examine the controversy surrounding the designation of Nabilah O’Brien, owner of the Bibi Kelinci restaurant, as a suspect. As a result of the discussion, the forum formulated several professional recommendations to be conveyed to the police authorities. Former Bima City Police Chief AKBP Didik Putra Kuncoro is listed among 54 Polri personnel who were to be reassigned in February 2026. The reassignment took place amid an ongoing process of dismissal without honour. Bareskrim Polri’s Directorate of Narcotics Crime issued a wanted notice (DPO) for drug trafficker Erwin Iskandar alias Ko Erwin. Hans Giovanny Yosua, Head of the Research and Documentation Division of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violent Crimes, reminded Polri not to be misused.
