Analyst praises Polri's success in securing Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming traffic
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police analyst from the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISSES), Bambang Rukminto, stated that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has successfully maintained order among road and toll users in a conducive manner during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming traffic flow. “The police also deserve appreciation for conducting preemptive and preventive efforts regarding road and toll user order from the start, so that up to H-1 (one day before Eid) today, the situation remains conducive,” he said when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday. According to Bambang, this success can be seen from the various series of operations carried out by Polri in maintaining public security and order (kamtibmas), such as Operation Ketupat 2026. “Similarly, Operation Ketupat also targets other kamtibmas disturbances related to crime prevention, and so on,” he said. He also stated that security and safety on the roads during the 2026 Eid homecoming is not solely the result of police work, but also the result of cooperation with various stakeholders. “For example, the government implemented a work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy that impacted the distribution of homecoming traffic density,” he said. Bambang hopes that these efforts will also run consistently during the return flow period. First, drones integrated with mobile command centres. These drones are used to monitor traffic conditions at points that cannot be reached by surveillance cameras or CCTV. Next, precision patrol drones used for electronic ticketing or electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE). The 2026 Eid homecoming traffic monitoring system is also supported by artificial intelligence (AI) that enables real-time data analysis and interpretation of traffic situations along the homecoming routes. This monitoring is directly integrated with command centres spread across various regions, from Java, Sumatra, to Bali, as well as major homecoming routes throughout Indonesia. The monitoring system is also equipped with traffic counting technology that functions to count the number of vehicles passing through major road sections. In addition, Polri has prepared service posts at several points, such as the Integrated Post General Hoegeng Gadog and the Gunung Mas Service Post on the Puncak route in Bogor Regency, West Java. Not only service posts, Polri has also implemented ramp checks or thorough inspections to anticipate potential traffic accidents at KM 81 of the Cipali Toll Road. To prevent the resurgence of homecoming traffic, Polri has enforced one-way traffic engineering in sections from KM 70 to KM 263 on the Trans Java Toll Road.
